We are working for implementation of ISO9001:2000 QMS in our CRO (Cleanical Reserch Organisation). One consultant advised me to go for Integrated system of ISO9001:2000 QMs and ISO 27001.
Is it possible/adviceable to do it?.

Sure yes. Infact it will be a more practical approach to implement and maintain an Integrated Management System and also cost effective.

You can have a comined system for ISO 9001 and ISO 27001. Just make sure that all the clauses of both the standards are addressed.

If you design and implement an 9001+27001 IMS I would recommend you to start first the QMS (9001) and then add and combine the specific ISMS requirements (27001)

Clause ISO 9001 - Response
Clause ISO 27001 - Response

Avoid and check for the duplication of response.

ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 in many ways compliment each other. Once you have ISO 9001 implemented, ISO 27001 comes along the way (sort of). Having both ISO 9001 and 27001 is a big plus in your customer's eyes. :)

Cheers!

There are many shared elements between ISO 9001 and ISO 27001:

Management review
Roles and responsibilities
Management of infrastructure
Training
Record control
Document control
Corrective action
Preventive action

Therefore, it is a very good idea to have an integrated system for both of them.

Intergrated system for both of them. Do you mean to sort of merge them together and have them as one?

Dear Aravind,

It is Great to have an intergrated managment system. The first common thing is both are into process approach. If the QMS processes are properly identified then it will be very easy to establish and implement ISMS. All the best wishes.
